Rotating a PDF here bakes the new orientation into the saved file itself, unlike a PDF reader's own on-screen rotate button, which only changes the view until you close the tab and alters nothing in the actual document. Three angle choices are available — 90° clockwise, a 180° flip, or 270° counter-clockwise — and whichever one you pick turns every page in the file by that amount together; the tool doesn't offer an angle control for one page at a time, so a document with pages facing different directions needs more than a single run to sort out. Under the hood, the chosen angle is added to whatever rotation a page already carries instead of replacing it outright, so a page a scanner already turned sideways — common with landscape sheets fed through a sheet-fed scanner — lands at the correct final angle rather than being reset to 0° and rotated from scratch.
That additive behavior is what makes the tool forgiving for a stack of scanned pages that came in at inconsistent angles: you don't need to know each page's starting rotation, only which way it still needs to turn from here. Fixing orientation is usually step one of a bigger cleanup — after that, reordering the pages or trimming the blank margins a scanner left behind are natural next moves, and a page too damaged to bother with can just be deleted outright rather than rotated into shape. Note the three angles are fixed presets rather than a free-form degree entry, so anything off-axis, like a slightly tilted scan, needs a different kind of editing tool altogether.
