PDF to Word turns a text-based PDF into an editable .docx file by reading the document's paragraphs, fonts, and tables with Python's pdf2docx engine and rebuilding that same structure as native Word elements you can click into and change.
Because pdf2docx works from the text and layout already inside the PDF, results are strongest on documents that started out digital — reports, contracts, exported slides, anything typed rather than photographed. Paragraph breaks, fonts, and table grids carry over with only minor cleanup on files like that, and a table with a clear grid usually lands as a real, editable Word table rather than a block of loose text. Multi-column layouts and unusually dense pages are the ones most likely to need a manual nudge afterward, since a PDF has no reflow information for pdf2docx to fall back on. Scanned or photographed pages are a different story: underneath the picture there's no real text for pdf2docx to read at all, so it has nothing to rebuild. Run OCR PDF first to pull the words out separately, then treat that as your starting point rather than expecting a fully formatted document to fall out the other side.
The output is a standard .docx file that opens fine in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice Writer — no separate app or plugin needed on your end beyond whichever of those you already use.
