Merging PDF files combines two or more separate documents into a single file, and the page order in the result always matches the order you drop or select the files in — whichever PDF you add first becomes the first pages of the merged copy. Add two or more files together from the file picker, or drag them into the drop zone as a batch; each one shows up as its own card with a remove button, so you can pull out anything you added by mistake before processing. Getting the order wrong? There's no drag-to-reorder step once the files are loaded, so clear the list and re-add them in the sequence you actually want.
A merge needs at least two PDFs, and a single batch can combine up to 20 of them at once. If one of the files is password-protected, DocShift lets you know and points you to Unlock PDF first, since an encrypted document can't be read until it's unlocked. Pages are copied directly from each source file rather than re-rendered, so text and image quality come through exactly as they were in the originals.
Once the combined file is ready, Compress PDF is worth a pass if the merge pulled in a lot of large scanned pages, and Split PDF can cut the document back apart later if you need to undo it. Merging is often how contracts, tax paperwork, or other multi-document sets end up as one file — bundle them together first, then decide who actually needs a copy of the combined result, rather than circulating every source document separately.

Yes — DocShift merges files in the exact order you drop or select them, so add them in that sequence rather than relying on a drag-to-reorder step afterward. Got the order wrong? Clear the file list and re-add them in the sequence you want.
DocShift lets you know the file is encrypted and asks you to run it through Unlock PDF first — merging can't read a locked file's pages until the password is removed.
You need at least two PDFs to merge — DocShift will ask for a second file if you only add one — and you can combine up to 20 files in a single batch.

Yes — Merge PDF works on any valid PDF regardless of whether its pages are scanned images or selectable text; every page is copied into the combined file exactly as it appears in its source document, contracts included.
