Add Page Numbers stamps a sequential number onto every page of a PDF in one pass, and three controls decide how it looks: a starting number with no upper limit (so a second volume can pick up counting where the first one stopped), one of six corner or edge positions, and a format choice between a bare digit like "7" or the fuller "Page 7 of 20". Every page in the file is stamped, including any cover or title page — there's no toggle to leave a single sheet out of the run, and there's no separate font-size control either, so every number prints at the same fixed size throughout the document. One quirk worth knowing: the "of N" total in the fuller format tracks the numbering sequence rather than the raw page count, so a 10-page file that starts numbering at 5 reads up to "Page 5 of 14," not "Page 5 of 10."
If you don't want a cover page carrying a number at all, the fix happens before you get here: pull it out first with Remove Pages, then run the numbering on what's left, using the starting-number field to keep the sequence lined up with the original document if that matters to you. The same pairing works in reverse, too — deleting a page doesn't touch the digits already stamped on the pages that remain, so trimming a document down after it's been numbered leaves old numbers with a gap in them. Run this tool again afterward for a clean, continuous sequence instead.
